A cross section of a plant stem revealing the remarkable structural complexity and cellular diversity that exists in nature. 'Arrays' of different cell types are present, each cell population performing specific functions in plant growth and survival. The colours were inverted to aid visualisation of specific cell populations. Collectively, the cells produce a spectacular natural pattern, just one example of the beautiful cellular tapestry found in nature.
